new studio

I have moved into a new studio! I never thought I would say that.

This decision has been such a tough one for me to make, i’ve been going back and forth on this for months and months, well actually its been nearly a year since i had to start thinking about leaving my old studio. Unfortunately my previous studio put everyone’s rent up by 50 - 100% increases last September. After a lot of coming together to try and make it work with the studios they still would not move on the increases which this led to a lot of artists leaving the studios. Which meant the lovely community we all had all but vanished in the coming months.

The studio did not feel the same, it was no longer my happy place. It was a place full of uncertainty, sadness. stress, and a weight on my shoulders. I was stuck, I didn’t know what to do. I knew I had to leave for my own sanity and for my work. The cost of the studios compared to the sales I was bringing in became too much of a pressure to create for income. I looked elsewhere to rent a studio, but location or costs did not fit. There are few and far between really which is not ideal either. So I had to stay for the time being until I could figure out my next step. The most frustrating thing was that it was effecting my work.

Months later it came the time to move house, my rent was up and we needed more space. And after searching, and viewing, losing out on places we found not only a lovely house became available but it also had a studio at the end of the garden. Talk about meant to be.

So I have been settling into my new studio as well as moving both studio and house at the same time, I do not recommend it - ha! This morning I got out some fresh panels and started working on a new series, and I finally feel like I can breath again in my practise.

Watch this space..
